DESCRIPTION:
Driven by his belonging to Ivrea and a “Olivettian” family, the Author has sought, as a passionate cyclist, those connections that link Olivetti to cycling. As you will read, many events create an intriguing common path. It’s a partnership that lasted for many years and began at the end of the 19th century when Camillo Olivetti, along with his two partners Michele Ferrero and Dino Gatta, established a commercial enterprise for importing the glorious and precious Victor bicycles from the Overman company of Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, into Italy. Already in the first two decades of the twentieth century, under the direction of Olivetti, excursions, mostly on foot or by bicycle, were organized in the surroundings of Ivrea and on the Serra hill. With Adriano Olivetti, in addition to industrial production and technological advancements, great importance was given to social issues, culture, architecture, and also sports. After the 1950s, the Olivetti Recreational Sports Group began its ascent towards the summits of sports, not only in Piedmont but beyond. Sections dedicated to numerous specialties were created, including athletics, alpine skiing, rowing, tennis, fencing, and many others. The story continued with cycling, the many races organized in the Canavese area, and the Giro d’Italia, of which Olivetti began handling the press service as early as 1950. But, due to a shared fate, this partnership dwindled in the 1960s with the passing of Fausto Coppi and Adriano Olivetti…
