DESCRIPTION
In the period of Italian reformism from the post-war period to the 1960s, after a long and troubled journey, a system of national economic planning was established. The fundamental project was developed around the role of the economic studies offices of some large companies, public and private, which carried out a long and valuable work of theoretical and practical development. But despite the direct involvement of the managers of these institutions in the national planning system, political difficulties, the particular institutional configuration given to the system and its distorted use effectively decreed its failure. Fabio Lavista’s book traces step by step the history of this important project and its failure, which, making it impossible to define clear and shared industrial policies, had long-term negative consequences not only on the performance of companies, especially public ones, but on the entire national economic system.
